REAP Medical Missions
Throughout Vietnam, REAP has actively supported and staffed numerous medical clinics
with an emphasis on children. Programs include:
Infant Mortality
REAP established a program which significantly reduced infant mortality by authoring
and sponsoring a malnutrition program for infants in Saigon.
Outreach
REAP sponsors medical outreach trips to remote and impoverished areas.
Cardiac Catheterization Lab
We established the first cardiac catheterization lab available to ordinary and
disadvantaged citizens at Nguyen Trai Hospital in Saigon.
ICC/CCU
This program established a new ICC/CCU with monitoring beds at Nguyen
Trai Hospital.
Pulmonary/Respiratory Department
REAP established a pulmonary/respiratory department, including donated ventilators
at Nguyen Trai Hospital.
On-Going Training and Support
We provide in-country training in cardiology and ophthalmology. Vietnamese cardiologists
can now successfully perform catheterizations, as well as invasive surgery, including lifesaving
angioplasty and stint deployment. REAP sponsored ophthalmologists train Vietnamese
physicians.
The Blind Shall See
Thousands of children in Vietnam suffer congenital blindness due to cataracts.
REAP-sponsored ophthalmologists have provided training to Vietnam physicians. For the
cost of an artificial lens, which is usually less than $75, and the no-fee services of the Vietnam
doctors, these children can see. Without REAP's help, they would remain blind for the rest
of their lives.
